Teen FLOW River Trip

Overview

Teen Flow is a new Pathfinder Platform where all teens within our Clubs can be spiritually mentored in the areas of Faith, Leadership, Outreach, and Witnessing.

The Teen Flow Program will host two major events yearly to empower our Pathfinders to grow spiritually, learn leadership skills, engage in their community, and become a light to others.

Description

The Southeastern California Conference Teen FLOW River Trip is a leisurely outing and trip for those teen leaders who have worked hard in their clubs as leaders and helpers during the Pathfinder year. 

Attendance

The river trip is open to all pathfinder staff and teens in the ranger class and above. Teens and staff must meet the eligibility requirement to go on the water (canoes, raft etc.).

Fees/Payments

Program – $17.85 per teen and staff. This fee helps cover programming, equipment rental, patches, campgrounds, etc., and is subject to change. You have the option of paying by credit card or invoicing the church. Simply select the ‘Order Now’ button. Then on the registration page select the payment method with the down arrow in the payment section. The church will be invoiced after the event if payment is not received by the event date.

canoes

The conference will be in charge of speaking with businesses to reserve canoes. Clubs will be responsible for filling out an additional registration to reserve canoes with the conference only. The price of the canoe rental will be $76.54

Registration

The club director or secretary must submit the online registration form at www.seccyouth.com eleven (11) days before the event. Registration deadline is Sunday, March 16 at 11:59pm.

Swim Check-off Confirmation (see eligibility)

SECC Youth Ministries will confirm swim check-off by email after the deadline. The director and teens will need to come to the on-site registration where the director will confirm attendees and wristbands will be placed on teens and staff.

Registration 0n-Site

The club director or secretary should go IMMEDIATELY to registration located at the registration banner to confirm attendees. Each attendee must be present to receive the appropriate wrist band which identifies who is swim certified or not.

TRIP GUIDELINES

eligibility

Limited to invested, qualified teen leaders (RANGER class and above) and their senior staff. To go on the water (canoes, rafts, etc.) the requirement is:

  1. All adults and teen leaders must have the following:
  • Swim Check-off certification (A conference-wide one is held in January by the Drayson Center. Check with your county coordinator for a local one.)

Copies of theSwim Check-off certification MUST be on file at SECC Youth Ministries where the records will be maintained; including the swim check-off certification done by the Drayson Center. There are NO EXCEPTIONS of this requirement for those going on the water!! Dry land activities are provided daily for teen leaders and staff that cannot meet the swimming requirement.

canoes and Rafts

  1. Canoes, kayaks, rubber rafts, metal drum or wood rafts must be in good repair and safe.

Safety & Boats

  1. The conference has already preselected individuals who are able to bring a boat to assist on the river. Please do not bring a boat if you or your club has not been contacted.

Inspection

  1. There will be an individual inspection of all participants before permission to launch is given to verify that:

    • Each person has proper flotation device on
    • Water fighting equipment conforms to the rules

Legality & Safety Requirements

  1. EVERYONE on the river MUST WEAR a Coast Guard approved life preserver or ski jacket. NO EXPCEPTIONS! You will not BE ALLOWED ON THE RIVER WITHOUT ONE ON!! IF YOU DO NOT COMPLY, YOU WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE WATER FOR THE DAY, by personnel from a safety boat.
  2. DO NOT hang any part of your body over the edge of float equipment while in motion or the motor is running.

Protocal

  1. The flotilla will be led by the lead safety boat. NO Pathfinder craft will go ahead of this designated lead safety boat.
  2. A safety boat will bring up the rear of the flotilla. NO Pathfinder craft is to be behind this designated safety boat.
  3. There will be NO SKIING during this trip as this is a float trip. NO JET SKI, NO FACTORY MADE PONTOON BOATS OR SPEED BOATS!
  4. TRASH IS NOT to be tossed in the river. Take out what you bring in. KEEP the river and beaches clean and better than you found it.

Sabbath Activities

  1. Please have your campsite completely setup and showers taken BEFORE SUNDOWN FRIDAY.
  2. Everyone is to be at Friday flag lowering and worship ready to spend a beautiful Sabbath with God. A meaningful program is planned.
  3. All teen leaders, staff and families (everyone who has come on the river trip) are expected to participate in planned activities. Church and Sabbath school are held in the morning with afternoon activities and evening social , including worships.
  4. Please do not leave the campsite area without permission.
  5. Use of any watercraft Sabbath hours, except for approved conference activities, is not permitted.

Senior Staff

  1. Each club must have a minimum of two senior staff (over the age of 21); one male and one female when sending both male and female teen leaders; ratio of one adult staff for every five to seven teens.

    Note: Senior staff coming with the teen leadership group may bring families if necessary, though we ask to keep extras to a minimum. No children are allowed on the river as this a a teen leadership trip, not a family outing. Families are expected to follow the same guidelines as the teen leaders and staff for eligibility.

    The Education Department of Southeastern California Conference has agreed that students may be dismissed from our schools at 12:00 noon, Thursday, for the camporee when proper arrangements are made. Even though schools have been notified of the dates, each club director should submit a list of his/her Pathfinders who will need to be dismissed at noon. This should be done no later than one week before the camporee. If you do not plan to be gone by noon, please do not take the Pathfinders out of school.

Schools

  1. For public schools, students and/or parents will need to work directly with their school and teachers to be excused from class and receive assignments. A letter is available on our website to give the school and teachers.

Water Fighting Equipment

  1. Restricted to pails and containers ONLY. No balloons, mechanical or pressure pumps, slingshots, etc.

What to wear

  1. Other than Sabbath, modest walking shorts are appropriate beach wear are optional at the discretion of the club director. Swimsuit are:

    • Males – modest swim trunk
    • Females – modes one piece swimsuit or tankini (a tankini is a two-piece suit with a tank top and swim bottoms); top must cover mid-section and bottoms must be full coverage; boy/board shorts are acceptable. Colored t-shirts can be worn, no white t-shirts

Willow Beach Launch Site

Location: Willow Beach Marina, 25804 N Willow Beach, Willow Beach, AZ 86445

The drive to Willow Beach Marina will be about an hour drive from the campsite, and there will be an additional fee to enter the Marina. The fee for the Marina is $25 per vehicle (Subject to change).

Isaac Kim

Associate Youth Director

Pastor Isaac Kim grew up in Atlanta, Georgia but has lived in SoCal and worked in SECC at Calimesa SDA for 20 years. He attended Atlanta Adventist Academy where his chaplain/bible teacher made a huge impact in his life where he discovered he wanted to do the same. While at the Calimesa church, Isaac served in various capacities including Children and Family Ministries for 12 years. He likes to work collaboratively with ministry teams, cheerleading ministry leaders, and creating space for people to share life together. Isaac and his two boys enjoy sports, both playing and watching. They are Falcons, Warriors, and Braves fans. Isaac strives to be the best dad that he can be by modeling the love of Jesus and believes that the message of the Gospel shows up in different ways along our journey. The most recent time the gospel was real to him was during his wife’s health journey.

Judi Jeffreys

Office Manager

Judi Jeffreys has been a part of the SECC Youth Ministries for 20+ years serving as the office manager and working alongside the team to keep youth ministries thriving in SECC. Judi uses her positive attitude and tireless energy to encourage others and is inspired daily by those with whom she serves.The gospel message became real to her as a young adult when she accepted the Adventist message and truly grasped the love of God. Judi’s motto is, "Change brings growth, growth brings growing pains, and growing pains brings change." Originally born in Colorado, Judi was raised a Southern California girl and loves all types of foods, but her taste buds fancy Asian foods, especially Thai and Indonesian. Judi married her high school sweetheart, Greg, and is proud of their adult children, Leigh, Mark, and Megan. When not working, Judi can be found riding a motorcycle, scuba diving, relaxing with yoga, taking long walks, or just spending time with her family.

Aren Rennacker

Youth Director

Aren Rennacker was born and raised in Sacramento, CA. He became an Adventist as a teenager thanks to the incredible influence of his church and academy. After graduating from Pacific Union College with a degree in Journalism, he served as a youth and young adult pastor at two wonderful SECC churches, Calimesa and Oceanside, while completing his Masters of Theological Studies from La Sierra University. In 2019, Aren became Director of Youth Ministries for the SECC, a position he cherishes. Aren loves connecting with pastors, speaking to young people, and serving the youth ministries leaders of our conference. His greatest passion is to empower youth and young adults to live the Gospel in new and relevant ways. Aside from ministry, Aren also enjoys basketball, stories, and a fresh bowl of oatmeal. He and his lovely wife Paige were married in 2020.
